Insurance

Your Responsibility:

The hirer is responsible for any damage that occurs during their hire.  Our vessels are insured for accidental damage and public liability, however, the hirer is responsible for: 
  • The insurance excess if a claim is made; or 
  • The full cost of repairs where the damage is less than the applicable insurance excess.
For added peace of mind you can purchase our optional Insurance Waiver before your hire commences as detailed below:

 Important Conditions:

  • The Insurance Waiver must be purchased before your hire begins and cannot be added once your holiday has commenced.   
  • The hirer remains responsible for minor damage below the value of the excess.
  • The waiver does not apply where damage results from prohibited, reckless or negligent use of the vessel
  • We strongly recommend taking out your own travel insurance for additional protection.
Understanding the Risk

Accidents are uncommon but repairs can be costly.  Across approximately 400 bookings each year, we typically experience one or two significant incidents caused by a collision with a natural obstacle (ie. tree branch) or another vessel.  

Damage can occur to external cladding, windows, cabinetry or internal fittings.  Repairs for a significant incident can cost several thousand dollars.  

Although collisions with other vessels are extremely rare – we have experienced three such incidents in the past 15 years – they involve a third party and typically result in an insurance claim, making the full excess payable.

Is the Insurance Waiver worth it?

We encourage you to consider whether the Insurance Waiver provides worthwhile protection and extra peace of mind for your booking.   We are available to answer any questions that may assist you in assessing risk for your group base on your holiday plans.  If you would like more information or wish to add the waiver, please speak with our reservations team before your hire commences.
